REC launches first BIPV solution

SANDVIKA, NORWAY: REC has launched its first building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solution combining the high performing REC Peak Energy Series Module and the proven SolrifTM installation system distributed by Ernst Schweitzer AG.

The REC Peak Energy Integrated Solution is designed for building in-roof solar systems that combine the reliable power output of REC solar modules with the proven SolrifTM installation system. The solution is both weatherproof, and aesthetic, fitting directly into the roof replacing conventional building material. The product can be used for new roofs or for retrofit purposes.

“Starting with the REC Peak Energy Integrated we are diversifying our product portfolio to provide tailor made solutions to better meet the needs of our customers in the residential and commercial markets”, said Åsmund Fodstad, senior VP, Sales and Marketing, REC Solar.

On the market for more than ten years with several MW already installed, the quality and flexibility of the aluminum SolrifTMFrame is well established. The low profile height results in good rear ventilation, supporting efficient electrical performance and can be easily combined with several roofing materials. The system can be installed easily and quickly just like roof tiles.

The design supports drainage of rainwater and the sliding off of snow so that modules produce the maximum amount of power in all weather conditions.

“The REC Peak Energy Integrated is a solid investment for customers in the residential and commercial segments. Users can benefit from the highest feed- in-tariff available in France with this solution. We are glad to expand our product offering in a market that is such an important growth area for REC”, said Jan Jacob Boom-Wichers, MD, France, Benelux, UK and Ireland, REC Solar France. Visit REC at Energaia stand Hall 6, Stand K300.

The BIPV solution uses the frameless REC Peak Energy Module which delivers more power per square meter due to several design improvements resulting in approximately seven percent improved energy output compared to earlier generation modules.
REC Modules have consistently outperformed other manufacturers in Photon field performance tests measuring energy yield in 2010. The modules have a robust and durable design, supporting a large mechanical load. The new product is TUV certified.

The REC Peak Energy Integrated is available in France for purchase now and will soon be offered in other markets in the first quarter of 2011. REC plans to increase production of the REC Peak Energy Integrated and to expand this BIPV product range. REC partners in France were recently trained on the solution and the company will support the training of additional installers.

Evergreen Solar announces recapitalization plan

MARLBORO, USA: Evergreen Solar Inc., a manufacturer of String Ribbon solar power products with its proprietary, low-cost silicon wafer technology, announced that its Board of Directors has approved a comprehensive recapitalization plan to align the company’s capital structure with its current business model and to better position Evergreen Solar for future growth.

The recapitalization plan, if fully executed, will:
* Substantially reduce the company’s outstanding indebtedness and annual interest expense;
* Exchange a substantial portion of the company’s existing convertible debt for new debt with longer maturities and lower conversion prices;
* Create a capital structure that should provide greater incentive to convertible debt holders to convert their notes into shares of the company’s common stock, which would further accomplish Evergreen Solar’s goal of substantially reducing outstanding debt; and
* Enhance the company’s flexibility to manage its business by eliminating certain restrictive covenants and the security interests contained in existing debt instruments.

The recapitalization plan is comprised of the following key elements:

* Exchange offers and a consent solicitation;
* Raising additional capital by seeking to sell up to $40,000,000 aggregate principal amount of Evergreen Solar’s new 4 percent Convertible Subordinated Additional Cash Notes due 2020.
* Implementing the 1-for-6 reverse stock split previously approved by Evergreen Solar’s stockholders at the company’s annual meeting on July 27, 2010, which will become effective prior to the closing of the exchange offers; and
* Increasing Evergreen Solar’s authorized shares of common stock from 120,000,000 to 240,000,000 shares (after giving effect to the reverse stock split), in order to ensure that the company has sufficient shares available for future issuances.
