Suniva announces new chief commercial officer

NORCROSS, USA: Suniva Inc., a US manufacturer of high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells and supplier of Suniva-branded solar modules, announced today a key addition to its executive management team.

Chief Commercial Offer, Marco Garcia, joins the Suniva team from Suntech America where he served as Vice President of Commercial/Utility Division sales. Before Suntech, Garcia was Director of Sales, Europe, for PowerLight Systems SA. In his new role, he will lead Suniva's worldwide sales.

“As a seasoned veteran of the PV industry, Marco brings invaluable experience to lead our sales growth throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Marco joins one of the industry’s most experienced executive teams,” said Suniva CEO John Baumstark. “With the recent and planned expansions of our sales team, Suniva is well primed to continue its worldwide delivery of high-efficiency solar cells and high power-density modules at an affordable cost.”

Garcia brings seven years of solar PV project development and sales experience to Suniva and has developed and closed more than 130MW of PV projects in the United States and Europe, including some of the largest public and private sector systems in the United States. He has 18 years of sales leadership and operations experience residing in Latin America, Europe and the United States.

“I’m thrilled to be joining one of the world’s most qualified solar teams during its next stage of expansion, and I am certain that the global PV market will welcome a high-efficiency, low-cost American product,” said Garcia.

Garcia will expand the sales team at Suniva, a company founded by Dr. Ajeet Rohatgi, Suniva CTO. Dr. Rohatgi is also the founder and director of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s University Center for Excellence in Photovoltaics.

This announcement follows the recent completion of Suniva’s collaborative project with Titan Energy Systems Ltd. to create India’s first large-scale solar project in Jamuria, West Bengal.
