GT Solar receives $47.3 million order for current generation SDR400 CVD reactors

MERRIMACK, USA: GT Solar International Inc. has received a $47.3 million order from South Korea-based polysilicon producer OCI Co. Ltd for its newest SDR400 CVD reactors.

This is OCI’s third order for GT Solar’s SDR400 CVD reactors. The new systems will be installed as the first phase of OCI’s new polysilicon capacity expansion plan, which OCI announced on December 8, 2010. The order will be included in GT Solar’s backlog for its current Q3 FY11, which ends on January 1, 2011.

“We are pleased that OCI has selected GT Solar’s SDR400 reactors for use in their newly announced polysilicon production capacity expansion,” said Tom Gutierrez, GT Solar’s president and CEO. “OCI is a long time valued customer and we are proud that our polysilicon production technology continues to provide sustained value to meet their growing manufacturing requirements.”

The SDR400 CVD reactor has proven capability of producing over 400 metric tons annually (MTA) of polysilicon and continues GT Solar’s leadership position for developing the most energy efficient reactors in the industry. The SDR400 reduces power consumption by an additional 20 percent per kilogram of polysilicon produced compared to GT Solar’s highly efficient SDR300.
