ROCKVILLE, USA: Telvent, the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced that it continues its global smart grid leadership in the solar industry, having been selected to design, install and manage the distributed control system (DCS) for the first two solar thermal power plants in the Abengoa's Extremadura Solar Platform, located in Logrosán, Cáceres, Spain.
Chosen because of its reliability, adaptability and expertise in the solar energy field, Telvent technology will give plant operators the ability to control and supervise all solar plant processes in accordance with the most current weather conditions.
Using real-time data, operators can better manage the position of their solar power trough collectors to efficiently capture the sun's energy over the entire course of the day, creating a more efficient operation and maximum power reliability for customers. Each solar thermal plant has the capacity to produce 50 megawatts of energy with its parabolic trough technology.
According to Telvent's chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez: "This most recent project adds to our significant portfolio of solar solutions that have been implemented around the world. We continue to provide clients with the best solutions for operating solar plants and a smarter grid in a fast-changing environment."
Telvent is a leader in developing and implementing solutions for the delivery of intelligent information to maximize solar energy production. This project marks the fifteenth Abengoa-owned commercial power plant in Spain for which Telvent has developed integrated control systems.
