SAN JOSE, USA: At the recent American Solar Energy Society (ASES) National Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, Bettina Weiss of the SEMI PV Group was awarded the 2010 Women in Solar Energy Award. Weiss is senior director of photovoltaics at the SEMI PV Group.
The annual Solar Energy award is presented to a woman who has contributed significantly to the acceptance and advancement of women in solar through their work in advocacy, politics, education, technical, or social change.
“I am proud to be the 2010 recipient of the WISE Award and I will continue to advocate on behalf of this industry to the best of my abilities. Solar manufacturing supply chain issues are getting more and more complex, and we need opportunities for stakeholders to come together and identify challenges and bottlenecks that are best addressed collectively. As a global trade association, that’s what we provide – opportunities to connect,” said Weiss.
“It makes a difference when representatives from the entire supply chain make their voices heard, because only then can we collectively advance solar growth and promote sustainable business practices.”
Weiss joined the SEMI Europe office in Belgium in 1996. She transferred to SEMI Global Headquarters in San Jose where she was involved in International Standards for ten years, eventually serving as director of the SEMI International Standards Program.
Since 2008, she has managed the global photovoltaic initiatives and activities of the SEMI PV Group, which serves the photovoltaic manufacturing supply chain. She works tirelessly on behalf of PV Group members and the industry at large.
