Gestamp Solar signs contract with Kuwait Oil to install 10 MW in Kuwait

MADRID, SPAIN: Last August, Gestamp Solar signed a $28 million contract with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), an important oil company headquartered in Kuwait. It is a subsidiary of the Kuwait  Petroleum Corp., the government company and is the world's fourth-largest oil exporter.

The object of the contract is the engineering, the construction and the operation and maintenance of a the first utility scale photovoltaic plant in Kuwait called Umm Gudair Field a name which honors the region where it is located.

It is Gestamp Solar first project in Kuwait and in the Middle East and it is forecasted that this new development will be completed about the middle of 2015. The facility has a peak power of 10 MW with over 32.000 modules and 12 transformation centers. It is estimated that the annual production will be 17.600 MWh/year avoiding to the atmosphere the emission of 9.100 tons of CO2.

For this project Gestamp Solar has had the collaboration of Solar Steel by Gonvarri as a supplier of one axis tracker, because it has an extensive international experience, but also a high production capacity and a wide knowledge on metal structures for solar photovoltaic technologies.
